How often to change your glucose meter strips and lancets

Lancetas y tiras reactivas CareSens para glucómetro

Test strips and lancets are consumables: they are used up with every reading. Using them properly and replacing them in good time is key to reliable readings and a comfortable prick. Here is how often to change them.

Lancets: one per prick

The rule is simple: a new lancet for every measurement. They are single-use because, after the first prick, they lose their sharpness, hurt more and are no longer sterile. Reusing them increases pain and the risk of infection. Our CareSens 30G lancets are ultra-fine and universal, compatible with most lancing devices.

Test strips: single use and mind the expiry date

  • Each strip is for one single measurement.
  • Respect the expiry date on the vial; an expired strip gives incorrect readings.
  • Close the vial straight away and store it between 4 and 30 °C, away from moisture.
  • Do not touch the reactive area or use bent or stained strips.

For the CareSens Dual you have CareSens Pro strips (glucose) and KetoSens strips (ketones).

How many do I need per month?

Multiply your daily measurements by 30. For example, 2 readings a day ≈ 60 strips and 60 lancets a month. If you measure daily, the bundle with 3 boxes of strips saves you money and leaves you with stock for months. You will find everything in the glucose and diabetes monitoring category.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reuse a lancet?

It is not advisable. It loses its sharpness and sterility: it hurts more and increases the risk of infection. Use a new one for every prick.

How long do strips last once opened?

Until the expiry date on the vial, provided you close it properly and store it between 4 and 30 °C. Unless the vial states otherwise, use them before that date.

Do CareSens lancets fit any device?

Yes, they have a universal design and are compatible with most lancing devices on the market.
